my xbox 360 is not reading any of my games. however, it reads dvds just fine.. when i pop a game in the screen turns white and says "please insert this into an xbox" (or something along those line) in many diff languages.. anyone know whats up? i tried a dvd lens cleaner but nothing changed.

try cleaning the disk...that just happened to me the other day and it was the disk itself also look for deep scratches...cuz sometimes it might be that as well

I believe the first generation 360's were released with cheap DVD drives that sometimes will stop reading games after a while. It will either not even try, or will "spin" so hard it will make deep, circular gouges in the game itself...but play DVD's just fine because of the limited rpm's needed to operate them.

If it isn't reading any of your games I would be willing to bet it's the drive itself that is malfunctioning. I just did a quick search online for those symptoms and it seems to be a pretty common thing...sorry =\.

yea im guessing your talking about the first xbox, or a "first gen". It happened to me like 4 times, you need to buy a new drive off ebay for probably 30 bucks and install it, should last another 6 months to a year depending on how often you play.

boo.. well i called microsoft today and they said they will fix it for 100 bucks along with 1 month free xbl and an extended 1 year warranty.. they also said that if the system is not repairable they will send a new one.. you guys think this is worth it?

That's a tough call. I like the idea of an extended 1 year warranty, but I don't like the $100 fee. See how much a new 360 drive goes for and go from there.

If its not a 360 I wouldn't waste my money unless u play it al the time even than step up ur game and get a 360

im such a newb, first 3 words..."my xbox 360", WOW. You should just keep turning it on and off until you get the red rings, its happened to me and its happened to almost everyone i play online with. They give you an extended warranty and fix that free. 100 bucks isnt bad but its just ridiculous that you spend 400 on a system that blows.
