wheel size

just a question for all the big time autoX guys, what size wheels have you found to be the best?

i have 17's right now but am most likely getting some 16's this winter (gt3s).Cool

will the smaller wheels help me get around the cones quicker?

RE: wheel size

that is a lot of talk about acceleration and fuel economy...plus the good old HT debate of Rota's sucking Toungue

i am looking for handling benefits....will 16's or 15's handle any better than 17's or am i mistaken??

RE: wheel size

It depends on the weight.. less rotational mass will benefit your handling, acceleration, braking, and gas mileage. The less your wheel/tire combo weighs, the less energy is wasted from your engine putting power down to the ground. Lighter wheels can make turning easier as well, since there is less mass being turned.

It all depends on the wheel.. but generally.. 15 > 16 > 17 in terms of which is best for handling. Obviously 17" SSR type-c's will be slightly better than stock wheels just because of the weight difference. Also keep in mind, most track cars will run the smallest possible wheel that will still fit over their brakes.

Rota GT3's are actually one of the heaviest "Honda" Rota wheels out there. In 16x7 they weigh a massive 16.5 lbs. For comparison, stock Si wheels (15x6) weigh about 15.6.. Volk TE37's (15x6.5) weigh 8.8. The lightest Rota wheel to my knowlege would be the 15x6.5 Slipstream, which is about 11.7.

http://www.wheelweights.net is your friend Thumbup (but their weights aren't always accurate..)
