turbo question

wus up everyone i have a few questions, i am definetly convinced that i want to boost my d series motorRunaway, i don't plan on running too much boost maybe 7-10 pounds or sowave.

my motor has over 200k miles on itGotme, the way i see it-and correct me if im wrong this is why i need the advice; but i plan on:

porting the head or getting it ported atleast
replacing the springs with some ummmm lets say skunk2 im sure they offer some aftermaket ones
and upgrading the cam...(is this necessary?)

for the bottom end i would imaging i'd have to get aftermarket pistons and rods...(is there anything else or should i even bother doing this for 7-10psi?)

so other than that, the turbo kit im wanting to get is the greddy kit Woot which already comes with the e-manage and the 310cc injectors so my question is, is there anything else that i need to do to make the motor hold up against boost? for those who are already running boost what all did ya do??? I appreciate all the advice in advance thanks mayn!

b/t/w the cheapest greddy turbo kit ive found is 2,000 bucks shipped Slap , if any1 knows where i can get one cheaper then that let me know!!! nothing used though.

RE: turbo question

You will need colder plugs
And I would replace some things with 200k
timing belt
water pump
oil pump
go with a thicker radiator for sure.

there is a lot to do, and I'm sure you can piece a kit together for cheaper then that.
I'm really tired and can't think straight and IK there is more
hopefully brad will chime in he is pretty savvy with the turbo info

and for bottom end it all depends on how much hp you will be making
I wouldn't boost over 220hp @ the wheels on stock internals.
Not to mention you will probably need an upgraded clutch
KEEP YOUR STOCK FLYWHEEL OR BUY AN OEM ONE
With a lightweight one, sure you rev faster but you also fall out of boost faster.
A cam isn't necessary but of course it will help
Make sure you run a large enough exhaust set up
most people go 3 inch on turbo but you really only see benefit's at 500hp+

RE: turbo question

The important thing to keep in mind is whether or not you will stay at that boost level. 99% of the time once you get the boost bug you will want more! So, keeping that in mind definitely build up the bottom end. I agree with boostedej8, so all what he said. Forged pistons, forged h-beam rods, notch the block (in most cases), ARP head studs, get your block checked by a good machine shop and honed if necessary, either blockguard or block post if you are not sleeving, don't worry about the head so much (pretty well flowing from factory), cam will help but not needed, Walbro 255 fuel pump, new fuel filter, turbo timer(not necessary but, saves you time), tune up("colder"plugs, new wires, cap & rotor), important gauges....boost/vac, oil pressure, fuel pressure, wideband ( don't even waste your money on anything else), exhaust temp(pyrometer).

I'm sure i'm forgetting some things...lol

NA is fine but, i'd rather be blown!

RE: turbo question

I would deff go with a turbo timer
It allows the turbo to cool prior to shutting it off so you dont have any oil sitting on the rod and then when it cools its not chillin in your turbo
It protects your major money investment in the long run
and don't forget obd2-obd1 conversion so it can be tuned.

What size turbo will you be going with and a/r and trim?
Remember bigger is not always better
You want usable horsepower
Not just a high dyno queen

I will push this thread again simply because its an amazing turbo read

props to VB motorsport forum for having it posted in their turbo section

RE: turbo question

^^^
Everything said prior is good stuff. With over 200k on your motor, I would for sure think rebuild/refresh/replace.

IMHO the Greddy kit = poop
Emanage = poop
310cc injectors = poop
....just my opinion.

piece together your own stuff.....may or may not be cheaper but I promise you it will be better.
