Tried my EJ8
I tried my EJ8 last saturday in the strip and my best time was 18.3
I have a Civic Coupe 99 EX Automatic stock 1.6 VTEC - It was my first time in a drag race and that makes me a noob in the racing life. I want to know how to improve that time before puttin mods in mi car. I know it can do better than that (some ppl told me that 2) I dont know about how to improve my launch .. all I do is (brake-acel) @ 3000rpm on D4.
All of you know that the EJ8 has:
P
R
N
D4
D3
2
Last night I hit the gas in D3 and i felt that it was launching faster than on D4 .. can I get any advices from someone of you guys that has an EJ8 and races with it??
Another thing ... if I launch from N to D4 it can damage the tranny??
I'll appreciate any help with that. Thanks in advance.

RE: Tried my EJ8
Personally when I fool around in mine I put it in D3 give it the most gas before it bogs down, when it hits 2nd gear I shift it to "2", then near 7000RPMs shift back to D3.
But thats me fooling around

RE: Tried my EJ8
In my SUPER honest opinion...I would do a tranny swap before even attempting to drag race. You'll notice better results right away from the get go, then you can learn how to drive and launch properly with a stick, then you can do mods.
I have a saying that goes, "Just because you can, it doesn't mean you should." I get asked all the time to race someone's stupid car, and I say...I drive a Civic, not a race car, why are you asking me? That said, I won't even attempt any sort of race until I have a turbo kit installed.
All in all, I'm sure there are some people on here that drive (and race) with with an automatic, they'll give you some pointers, I just think that it isn't worth it.

do a manual swap
its much better on the tranny. Plus they are cheaper to replace than autos IMO
