Wouldn't sell well at all in america, hence why we never see these here. They meet necessities in European/ Asian countries for a small sporty car that's easy to drive and park on their roadways. The cost is also what would kill it here. Probably a $35,000+ price tag that puts it up there with other sports cars that would outperform it. Would be a very small amount of people that would actually spend the money on one over something else.

In the UK the Honda Civic Type R price will be estimated around £30,000, which is $48,733.65 today. Now of course that price would drop into the $35-40k range if they make the car here in the states and not import it from the Honda’s Swindon, U.K., assembly plant where it's being built. But even Honda said the car was built for European driving taste. Which means we would probably get a really toned down version anyways so the price would even be closer to $30-35k. Europeans will spend the money to own it but with our emissions, poor driving, poor economy, un-pure enthusiasts... we couldn't fathom the thought of paying $40k+ on a Civic. We would just rather wait until the motor shows up in something here similar, then wait for a company to make it possibly to swap it into our current cars. And then at the end of our build we spent somewhere between $10-20k on our $5-8k cars.

On another note...
Honda's goal is to snatch the fastest FWD record around the Nürburgring so that says they are building this thing to compete. At 276 horsepower this thing will fly, hopefully Honda is getting at the kinks out of all the wheel spin it's going to have otherwise AWD might be in the Civics future again. I wish i would still be here in Germany to stop by a Honda dealership to test drive one Banghead .

These were a few I had in mind, but you missed the big cars like the mustang, comaro, and charger/challenger that dominate the sports market in the US that the civic would be smack in the middle of as far as price.

As for that petition I'd wager that half or less of the signatures would even be able to purchase the car and way less than that would actually buy one.

Yeah it would fall in line with the base models of the American muscle cars but not the top of the line muscle cars. And I would think the 0-60 would be better in the new CTR than a stock V6 Mustang or Camaro. The cars I am comparing it to is its actual top competition. Most people that would be on the market for a CTR wouldn't even consider a muscle car and vice versa. The cars I listed above are all competing for the same market, Sport Compact Cars.
