Site News: It's time to stop the decline
#31
I have a legit reason for not being on here as much and not helping out, I got rear ended and my EJ8 was totaled Sad then i got a 2011 malibu LTZ and got out of the whole "car" game. Today I purchased a New 2014 Hyundai Veloster Turbo!!! so atleast I have a fast car now and something fun to drive! lol Its hard to see this site go downhill from what it once was but I think Kallar68 has a good point about social media and the fact people would rather lurk until their car is "respectable" in their eyes although everyones car didnt start out looking great

I am a member of another forum where the first thing you had to do to get access to 90% of their material was to sign up! It was an official thread where you introduced yourself, you didn't have to know anything, just had to sign up which was mandatory so that you and the mods acknowledge your presence.

Maybe not make it mandatory or something, but for the past week I've been trolling / lurking and noticed we constantly have over 100 guests lurking.. maybe make a link at the top telling people to register so their problems are solved easier? They lurk because they're afraid they might get shut out (which is what happened to me for the first year or two) .. because their car might not be good enough, maybe they are asking old questions (ANNNOYING lol) but at least it would bring in more people and get rid of these lurkers so that we have a great community once again.

This site has been my first forum, and without it I probably would've never found out so much about the EJ8 chassis!

This is a great idea. We just recently enacted on the local forum that I own. It's helping a bit with new registrations. Also, limiting what content can be seen until you reach a post-threshold works wonders as well.

Also, the idea is to create unique content that members can only find here on EJ8Squad.com. Social media and what-not makes it difficult to do, but it is possible.

Additionally, another point to emphasize is not just unique content, but quality content. You have Moderators and Administrators. Make them responsible for providing and contributing valuable content to the site.

Another $0.02 from me.

Don't know if this has been proposed yet... But.. what if we did a ROTY poll at the end of each year where all the ROTM winners of the year are the choices..

I think it would be an interesting poll, hopefully could bring in some traffic or make lurkers/guests/new guys want to participate in it.

We do this already. All the winners get put in a playoff style bracket

Im a noobie here. I don't even have a car yet. I think I only lurked like about 2-3 times and decided that I was going to purchase an EJ8 so I said, "what the heck, ill join!" thinking it was still an active forum until I stumbled upon this thread =( hopefully it goes back to the way everyone says it was.

I was pretty active on 8thcivic.com before I traded in my car. I would log in at least twice a day so I think that habit will continue on EJ8squad. Hopefully I can contribute to this forum and learn about this chassis as well.

I agree with having to register to gain access to a lot of the content, i think that would help with membership and activity. Another way to get activity flowing through this site would be to maybe do some extra stuff for the ride of the month or do like a ride of the week and give away a decal or lanyard? Do different contests for different occasions, like on the new forum im on for my VT during the december ROTM you had to take pics that were winter or christmas related and enter them and then they had a vote. and winner got ROTM and a $50 amazon gift card. You can post a item that almost everyone should have in their house or that is cheap on facebook a week before and have people enter their photos on a thread on the forum containing this item in the photo? IDK just throwing out ideas lol
