Church?
#11
A little background on me: I'm 23. For the first 20 years of my life I went to a church of Christ ever Sunday morning, night and Wednesday night. CoC gets a bad rap sometimes for being the "shove it down your throat" type, and to an extent I agree. At a certain point, I got tired of it and quit going. I quit going mainly because my friends I'd grown up with there had gone off to college and they were what kept me going to church, so in a way I wasn't going for the right reasons anyway, but that's another debate. In the last 3 years have set foot in a church less than 5 times. So, that's that.

Now, to me, a church is more than a building. It's more than something you wake up on Sunday and go to. It's about building relationships with people who share common beliefs and developing relationships with them and in turn getting closer to God.

It's kinda like this forum. Why did you join this forum? Probably to talk to folks with similar interests in cars and what not. If you look at joining a church the same way as joining a forum, it makes a lot of sense. I'm not going to sit here and say that to go to Heaven, you have to be in church every Sunday. But, I do think going to church, forming bonds with people and studying God's word to become a better person is an excellent way to better your chances, so to speak.

One day, once my partying days are over and I can honestly say God is the most important thing, I want to get back into going to church. Probably not a CoC, but somewhere. Some of my best memories are from church functions. Church camp, mission trips, service projects, dinners. If you find a church, get involved. Do things to serve others. It's a wonderful feeling. And you don't have to go to church to do that, but a church can open a door to help you find ways to serve others.

Maybe that's all a bunch of random crap, but those are my thoughts on the matter.

Brother your thoughts are justified, but my simple question stands, are you willing to gamble your soul? How do you know, when you decide to follow Christ, that you didn't die before that. Not judging at all, but tomorrow isn't promised to us.....
Like I said, I've done every drug possible, and slanged lots of drugs... I'm just saying, and please believe that I'm not judging,I fail everyday...

Luke 9:25 comes to mind here.

"For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?
Romans 3:23
English Standard Version (ESV)

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Oh believe me, I think about that. Tomorrow is not promised and I know that if tomorrow never comes, I don't know where I'll spend eternity. I am gambling with my soul and I know the consequences of my actions. However, my day is coming where I will get right with The Lord. That day is coming soon.

My soul too. Just be as safe as possible in anything you do, and don't get caught up in something where you can't turn back from, and end up in the legal system.
