Whether its carb legal or not. Most cops won't do this tho. You must have caught him on a day Krispy Kreme was sold out or something.
The intake you can get away with tho.

This is what I've always heard. Granted I'm a couple thousand miles away, but ive always read that any modified exhaust in Cali is illegal. If I ever lived in Cali, I don't know that I'd own a modified car. Too many hoops to jump through.

^^all of this. Everytime i read one of these post i thank god im in florida

"I'll betcha that on your ticket, in the middle somewhere the officer wrote the infraction number "27151 section (a)" Then he probably wrote "modified exhaust" next to that. The California vehicle code, which I should add, will become your best friend if you're obsessed with cars like I am.... the CA Vehicle code yes, it does state:

"No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of the vehicle...."

in provision 27151 section (a)
HOWEVER...
if you read further, to section (b) the code says:

"...exhaust systems installed on motor vehicles with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of less
than 6,000 pounds...." which is civics like us "....a sound level of 95 dbA......complies with this section." !!!!!! WTF! if you read even FURTHER INTO THE CODE YOU FIND:

"A Motor vehicle exhaust systems or parts thereof include, but are not limited to, non original exhaust equipment."

i still think you can win the exhaust case. If you go to court with all this info and the vehicle code printed and highlighted and well put together, youll win

Sorry to hear but I did have a vibrant muffler in my civic and got pulled over for it. And yes Im from Ca. Even though it is a quiet exhaust. They will pull you over for anything modified on a bad day.

Actually there are two different quotes on the exhaust... I believe one is said if the exhaust is modified it is illegal...Your exhaust is not modified... you did not cut it, alter it, or remove anything from your exhaust... correct?... it doesn't say the exhaust that came from the factory, it just says exhaust... and clearly you bought a brand new exhaust.. why would you modify it??

Also your exhaust must not be louder than i think a certain decible(sp)... Any state referee can test this... when i got my rsx tested, they kept bouncing the car off the stock rev limiter causing the exhaust to get louder... so it was passing then it would hit the rev limiter and fail... every car has a certain RPM they test the sound for.. i believe mine was at 4600 and the rev limiter was at like 5200 or something....
And unfortunately they wont let you go back there to test it with them.. Which pissed me off because i hate other people driving my car, and just reving the *poopy* out of it also.

So basically all you need to do is take your car to the referee, have them test it... if you fail, all you have to do is go to court and pay the fine... you don't have to take off your exhaust or anything. At least I didnt.

I agree, also when I got a modified exhaust ticket I just said it was a replacement exhaust. I said the old one had holes in it and I went to the auto parts store and bought a brand new one. The judge dismissed the case.

BTW, even if it is sold by a local store, it could still be illegal.

I nightshaded my taillights on my rolla and I got stopped.
