My takeaway from James chapter 2;

2:1-4 - basically says not so show favoritism to anyone. It doesn't matter if a person is dressed in swanky clothes, fancy jewelry or drives a high priced VIP car. One should show him the same amount of love/respect as to the person who doesn't have the same bank account as the other guy. I know I fall short of this sometimes. In the past I was quick to judge people and label them a certain type. I'm not as quick anymore but still struggle with the judging of people. Romans 2:1 put me in my place.

2:8-9 - "If you really keep the royal law according to the Scripture. You shall love your neighbor as yourself, you are doing well. But if you show partiality, your are committing sin..."
I've never really thought about when I showed favoritism I was committing a sin. It kind of makes me think in a different way.

As I was looking for the book where it asks what are the two greatest commandments as I remembered it mentions your neighbor by-the-way it's in Matthew 22:38-39, my eye caught.

Matthew 7:3, "Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?"

I do not memorize verses as I should but I always have remembered this one. To me this verse points out that we all are hypocrites, including me. I know that someone may not like to think of themselves as such but if one really thinks about it it is 100% true.

2:17 - "In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead."
Pretty straight to the point if you ask me. If you faith is true you will have the desire to do deeds that show mercy to others etc.

From verse 20 to the end I kind glossed over because I do not know the Old Testament all that much.

I do have a question for everyone. Can you guys give me your thoughts on 2:18?

My thoughts on James Ch 3.

The tongue is small yet does the most damage. Only a perfect man can tame it and that one man was Jesus. So we all use the tongue to praise the Father, yet he curse others with the same tongue. Even if "bite our tongue" we still think it and that is just as good as doing it.

Those who are wise do their good deeds in humility. In all sin one will find pride.

What does that statement
Mean?

To me the overall meaning of chapter 3 was that the tongue is soul poison
I say that from how I understood it
3;8-9-10
But the tongue can no man tame
Its an unruly evil
full of deadly poison-
Therewith bless we God, even the father and therewith curse we men
which made after the similitude of God-
Out of the same mouth proceedet blessing And cursing.
My brethren these things ought not so to be.

Those three verses basically speak fir themselves
Someone can do those exact things everyday which lands you to be a hypocrite
I do it alot.
In example
I pray to god then curse later that day.
many do it and admit

3:17-18
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure,
Then peaceable,
Gentle and easy to be intreated full of mercy and good fruits without partiality Snd without hypocrisy -
And in fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace

Thanks for posting Alex. We are all hypocrites. I know someone might get offended by that statement but if they were to really dwell on it they will realize that we all are in fact hypocrites. There are a lot of people who don't want to go to church because they think all the people who attend are hypocrites. Well, they are actually correct!

I thought that verse was in James Ch3 but it is not. I am partial to the ESV but sometimes read other versions and maybe that's where I read it. Gotme I believe I posted it because of of verses 13-14.

"13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth."

I will admit that I sometimes do things solely to be boastful which is not the way I should perform my good deeds because that is not wise. It's the norm to take pride in ones work but if it wasn't for God you would not been able to do what you do. But, in all sin you will some form of pride.

This is sort of on-topic. Take Jared Allen's post game interview after he set a Vikings record for sacks in a season.

I was shocked and happy at the same time. I had to rewind and show Tammi and especially Elijah what he had said. I don't think Jared Allen said what he said to be prideful because I guarantee he offended some of his fans for saying what he said. It's not my job to judge someone anyway that is the Lords job.

Back in the day I would have thought "ahh come on, really?". I for one, have greater respect for him and I pray that he may have planted a seed in someone who was watching.
