I would add that I will personally vouch for "Prestige" alarm systems made by Audiovox... They are a cheaper brand (price wise) than DEI, but they have awesome support, very easy to install, and have excellent features aswell... I have a DEI Viper in my CRX, but the EJ is getting a Prestige unit...

Yea I forgot about Audiovox's Prestige lineup. They are cheaper yes and are good entry-level alarms. They do claim that they work up to a mile but I have yet to see one that works at least 1/2 mile away. Still a decent brand. Again someone would just have to make sure they get it from an authorized dealer and get it installed properly. Added Prestige to the original post. Thanks!

I could be totally off on this but after reading this an alarm with 2-way pager sounds great and so does a magnetic reed switch relay for a kill switch. If you carried a magnet (strong enough to work through whatever your switch is behind) on your key chain with your remote/pager couldn't the magnet ruin or disrupt your pager?

The solution to that issue is that you don't carry them close together. Place the magnet in your wallet and when you get in the car just swipe it across the area of the switch and you're good to go.

Ahh... in the wallet, why couldn't I think if that. I wonder if it could mess up the magnetic strip on cards though. All i could think of was a separate key chain, which I'd probably lose, or to stick it to the body somewhere secret.

Great write up btw, thanks for putting the info out to help people make their rides more secure!

my door handles are shaved with an automatic popper in the door panel... yes it is just one layer (and a decently good one) except for the thieves that have the ability to break a window without being noticed.......oh yea
