Gimp is very toolbar-cluttered and a little tricky to get into. Function-wise however, it's the same as Photoshop. The same basic underlying principles of layer-based editing apply to both, but Adobe's interface is much more cleanly laid out.

What sort of things are you looking to do with Photoshop?

If you just take some time to look through and mess around with it, it's actually pretty simple to figure things out. If you have any questions about how to do something, just post them up here and we'll help you out. Thumbup

Lol in conjunction with Phillip was just saying and what you asked me before, the formula is basically Photoshop+Youtube= graphics designer in 2 days.

Totally serious. I used to produce inhouse graphics for a TV show in Orlando, and the first time I ever touched Photoshop was the first day I sat down for the job. Youtube is filled with all sorts of excellent tutorials (and some not-so-excellent ones too, which do well to keep you on track).

Another great resource and secret weapon of mine is Creative Cow. That site is an invaluable resource of creative how-to for Adobe and a whole host of other pro industry products.

Like another said, GIMP is a little confusing and not near as well layed out. I almost always suggest downloading Photoshop CS2 for FREE to almost everyone. It's layed out almost identical to the new version but obviously down't have quite as many features. It works perfect if you're trying to get into it though.
