I would leave that decision up to your tuner

picked up the headstuds! dirt cheap for some barely used ones if you ask me. do you guys think building the head is necessary?

not unless you plan to put a cam in it.

RE: sohc-t vs swap

Can't wait to watch this develop.

AEM doesn't make cams bro. You must be thinking about a cam gear....or your boy doesn't know what he's saying.

Head work will simply (and greatly) amplify all of your performance if done properly. Is is good? HELL YES! Is it necessary? Not really. IMO not on a street car. over 300hp and I'd start thinking about something for more flow and how it will benefit.

ARP head studs.
New OEM head gasket.
Reconditioned block. (machine work)
Vitaras.
Eagles.
Block guard.
Fuel Pump.
DSM 450s w/ clips & resistor pack or injector driver.
Tuning.

.....good "cookie cutter" setup. Done more times than I'd like to think about. Easily put down 300-400 with this setup. However, I'd really start building more for reliability and durability after about 350+. Then come sleeves and a heck of a fast sohc. If you have a little more money though.....a swap will get you to a MUCH higher level down the road. I guess it boils down to how far you want to take it. As said here already....300hp in an sohc coupe is WAY more than most people can handle on the street. You should be just fine. You WILL OFRSURE want to turn it up though. LoL
