Question  Rate these companies

Hey guys, I'm seriously considering doing something nearly unheard of, something considered by most to be heresy. Type-R-T. I'm looking at several complete kits, mainly because I am way too lazy to just assemble one myself. I'll probably be running the stock block, so nothing more than 5-6 pounds, I'm going for 250+ whp to keep up with my buddy's stage 2 GTI. Anywho, The companies I'm looking at are Rev Hard, Peakboost, and Full Race. I've heard great things about Full Race, but Rev Hard and Peak Boost don't have terrible reputations either. All the kits have equal length SS manifolds (with the option for a top mount from peakboost), T3/T4 Turbos, Hondata, 650cc injectors, a walbro fuel pump, and some kind of warranty.

So, I'd like to see everyone's opinion on these companies. Please rate them first, second, and third. Thanks guys Smile

Same here, never even heard of the other two companies though. I'm a bit skeptical about why you want to turbo your Type-R engine though, I'm sure you and many others will probably say that Boost Rulez yo! And I completely agree, but the B18C5 engine is really a masterpiece of N/A machinery, and thats where its true potential and performance lies.

Now, I've never gotten to ask anyone why they chose to boost a C5 engine before, because usually when the C5 engine is of topic it is most likely either:

a) Involving a swap discussion
or
b) Showing off some shiny individual throttle bodies

I'm not bashing your project or anything, but from my research on the development of the motor, boosting it kind of goes against the very conception on which it was designed. So...basically I'm wondering what your reasons are for using it as your turbo beast?

RE: Rate these companies

yeaa
I wouldn't boost a C5
regardless
I think for only 5-6 lbs 650cc injectors are way to big
compression is way to high
you would detonate reallll fast in my book
If you want a motor to boost
we can trade my D series with turbo haha

RE: Rate these companies

Alot of people share your opinions, and I know the C5 is a great NA motor, but all motor power really isn't where I want to go, Its very expensive, and you never get the same results as you do with boost. On 5lbs of boost I should easily be at my horsepower goal without any modifications to the internals(Something I would really like to avoid). I know the compression is high, but I don't think detonation would be an issue on just 5lbs, I'll also probably downgrade the injectors to 440s, I would prefer ones that are too big to ones that are too small, you can always run on negative duty cycle, but 110%+ is scary...

Now, say if someone on the squad had a GSR EJ8 and they wanted to trade for a Type R EJ8(unless of course they just wanted to swap engines), then I think we might be able to work something out so I could run 9lbs and break 330 whp Big Grin

RE: Rate these companies

There's nothing wrong with running high compression boost other than being an absolute bitch to tune. Talk to some real hardcore racers (not 99% of the H-T community) and they will say go for it. The ITR motor doesn't have really that high compression. There are many many guys boosting with much higher compression. I personally know four people boosting ITR motors with complete success. Again.....IT HAS TO DO WITH TUNING. DO NOT use any remotely bad gas & make sure you have a Honda tuning god tune it for you and not some unknown local guy (unless he happens to be one of those really known guys)

I think you'll be absolutely fine with a small to medium sized slug @ about 5-8lbs. One of my best buddies is running 13lbs on his stock ITR with a GT30. He just blew it but it's because it was on a junk street tune and he was too anxious to trailer it to the tuner.

1. Full Race
2. Peak Boost
3. Rev Hard

RE: Rate these companies

I'm probably going to go with John Vega for the tuning, he tuned my single cam, and I've never heard a bad word about him. He does Hondata, ECTune, Crome, Uberdata, AEM EMS, all kinds of things.
