Radar Detectors!!!
Okay, so I've been noticing more and more cops on my drive to work every day. I think they're starting to really crack down on my usual route and even though everyone speeds, I usually get followed even while going to speed limit b/c i'm in a Civic so I've been seriously considering purchasing a Radar Detector to at least give me a good heads up as to when and where they're coming from. So far I'm leaning towards a Valentine 1 radar detector because my friend has one and it works wonders. But I'm not sure if I want to dish out about $400 for a Radar Detector. I just got a Speeding Ticket recently for doing 88 in a 65 zone so I dont feel like getting another one anytime soon or it'll for sure go on my record. Any suggestions? Btw, here's the link to the Valentine 1's.

RE: Radar Detectors!!!
If you were to get a radar detector, I've heard V1 is the way to go. I used to want one before and spent a lot time reading and researching them and they were good stuff. Problem is the massive price tag.
I've found the best remedy would be to just stop speeding, keep it around 70 mph at the very most. My personal rule of thumb when driving is 10 mph above the posted limit MAX, and it hasn't gotten me in trouble, that said, I've done some stupid things in my car before and ended up seeing a cop posted on the side while doing it, and haven't gotten in trouble.
I've been "lucky" so many times that I just toned my driving down period, *shrugs.*
If you absolutely MUST speed, then the V1 will pay for itself from the 4-5 tickets you'll save yourself from, long term it may prove to be a great investment.
You may also want to see if having radar detectors are illegal to install in your state, because if it is and a cop happens to see it, you won't have a great day. I remember they now have radar jammers they can install in cars now, I was impressed by how far technology available to consumers has advanced these days.
Of course, you have to remember that for the product that we purchase from a company to avoid the authorities and their tactics, the same company probably releases ANOTHER product to the authorities designed to beat their own radar detector....
I'm not saying it's true, but it's not hard to imagine the possibility of a company taking advantage of both parties.
Whatever you do, good luck!

RE: Radar Detectors!!!
My suggestion is that you buy my radar detector and save $300
I got it for christmas, opened it to use it on my drive back to daytona, and now its been sitting on my dresser, it has great range and sensitivity, good controls, and it will even talk to you, but it doesnt have arrows, and it is missing a suction cup thingy I think.

Radar detectors are SOOOOO nice to have but they're kinda like a devil in sheep's clothing. They don't keep an honest men honest AT ALL. LOL They're more of a safety blanket......a cloak..... You will now feel invisible and feel safe to do things you might not normally do.
....well that's the mother in me talking. LoL
Get one if you want yo. Just be sure to check your local laws first. They'll save you numerous times I'm sure. You're right in the one you choose. The V1 is absolutely awesome....probably the only one I'll ever own. Mine has saved me EVERY time. Granted, I don't speed too excessively....when I do, this kinda slaps the back of my hand and say no....at the right times. LoL
There are more that are on their way up fast but the V1 has been a leader forever.
.....you have to think of the other safety features in one as well. I'll stand behind detectors and support just cause they alert you when emergency vehicles are approaching and for other various reasons. I always ride around with the music a little up. My windows are tinted heavily. My exhaust and motor itself are freaking loud as hell. It's nice cause it will start going absolutely crazy if a ambulance is coming up.....giving you ample time to get out of the way. Several times you know...you just don't hear it or see it coming up 'til it's right there about to ram into your back bumper. For the people who don't pay attention to what's coming up behind them, this is a really good feature.

RE: Radar Detectors!!!
I have a radar detector.... its a very basic one.... cant remember the brand but its good enough to start talking to me before I see the cop. I dont drive like a mad man....but Im always doing atleast 10 over no matter what just because the speed limits here are rediculous. It also gives me peice of mind to know when a cop is around me even though im not going fast. but ya... i do know alot fo people that started driving faster once they got one....but the thing is if they get you before you get a chance to slow down you are still gonna get a ticket
