How's your coolant level? Any air in the system?
Any vacuum leaks?

^^^All possible idle issues

When the engine is cold....ie. left overnight, remove the radiator cap and start the engine(w/ the cap still off) then let it run till the radiator fan comes on(basically this is when the thermostat opens). If the coolant level goes down top it off. If it stays level then your good.

BE PREPARED some coolant will spill out so have a drain pan underneath just in case.

if there was any air in the system the coolant level will go down during the above procedure.

Water itself will be fine, assuming you're not in a harsh-winter environment (30 degrees around there, etc.) The water shouldn't dilute the coolant enough to remove its anti-freezing properties.

Overall, water instead of coolant shouldn't have anything to do with the issue.

RE: P0505 Idle Control System Malfunction

i had learned that the p0505 may be caused by some air leak. so after spending time and money with some mechanics with no results (i changed the iacv too); i decided to check it out myself.
i revised and cleaned all the hoses around the iacv, cruise control, intake, etc. i pulled the throttle out and cleaned it as well. put everything back and "walla" problem solved.

hope it helps you.
