new-few cam questions
I have a d16y8 completely stock motor besides intake and bolt- ons, wanted turbo but kinda ruled that out due to cost and lack of knowledge. wanted to maybe due camshaft to get some more power. and adjustable cam gears. i was looking at the zex cams but not to sure what i can run on a stock motor and what set up for the camshaft and cam gears i would need. also wondering about the power gains and if there would be a noticeable difference? any help would be appreciated.any suggestions?thanks a lot!

RE: new-few cam questions
yea and if you do upgrade the valve terrain go crower, the zex valve terrain is noisey as can be, sounds like a diesel haha

RE: new-few cam questions
Don't waste your time with a stage 1. I read a lot on various forums and they all pretty much said stage 1 cams are not going to give you a lot of gains. I'm sporting a stage 2 Crower and upgraded valvetrain. Granted replacing the valvetrain SUCKED.

RE: new-few cam questions
Do EXACTLY what Jeremy has. IMO, he pretty much has the best sohc cam setup for general street driving. It has way more pull over most. You do have to do springs and retainers AND tune it but it WELL worth it.

RE: new-few cam questions
I was new to internals when I did it too. I did have help from a buddy though. Before I dove in I read A LOT on various forums. Like I mentioned before the new Crower valve springs and retainers were a bitch to to put back on. Taking off the stock ones were a snap. I wouldn't waste your money with stage 1 though.

RE: new-few cam questions
1. Crower stage2 camshaft.
2. Cam gear of your choice.
3. Crower valve springs.
4. Crower retainers.
......Then get an obd1 p28ecu (if you don't have one yet) a conversion harness to be able to plug it in. Then take it to a shop and have them chip the ecu and dyno tune your new setup.
Also recommended if you don't have one yet is an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. This will help in making some fine adjustments (even though most of it can be handled through a good tune)
