Question  Need Help Understanding Smog Laws

Well I've got a couple of G's that have damn nearly burned a hole through my femur due to the research that I've been doing on what platform to go with D16Y8 vs B18B.
After going back and forth with pros and cons I decided to stay with the D16 platform and boost it.
I've located a local 99 D16Y8 with approximately 33K on it as the motor that I plan on building up while on a engine stand granted that it is legit.
The million dollar questions are what exactly will take my car out of CARB compliance here in CA when replacing the internals in preparation for boost? and How do I verify that a motor is not stolen.

Take the VIN off the block and bring it to your local police station. They can run it for you. As far as what you can and can't do, basically comes down to KEEP everything that was on there from factory! Air pumps, Evap canister, PCV, etc.

NA is fine but, i'd rather be blown!

edelbrock performer x kit is 50 state legal for smog, but you have to have a stock engine, otherwise it will be illegal, its a great kit, just bolt on and go, its worth the money

RE: Need Help Understanding Smog Laws

I am planning on getting the Edelbrock Kit since it was 50 state legal and was pretty complete.

I thought only Edelbrock and Greddy made 50 state legal turbo kits for our Civics Gotme

I've already spec out a list of parts I was planning on using but I still need help deciding on odds and ends or was the Edelbrock kit designed for stock internals?

List of planned internals to purchase
SRP Pistons 9.0:1 Cp
Crower Steel Billet Rods
Crower Valve Springs and TI retainer Kit
Crower Stage 2 Turbo/Supercharger Cam
ARP Head Studs

OEM Timing Belt
OEM Water Pump
OEM Gasket Set

Still undecided on Rod Bearings
Main Bearings
Thrust Washers
Oil Pan
Fuel Pump

RE: Need Help Understanding Smog Laws

More than likely you will not pass smog. Im in Cali also and they are very strict with emissions. (ironically we're drowning in smog) But it's fairly easy to go around this if you know some people.

RE: Need Help Understanding Smog Laws

I unfortunately don't know anybody and would prefer to do everything within CA emission laws. That sucks to hear that it most likely won't pass. I guess a stock rebuild is in the works now!

RE: Need Help Understanding Smog Laws

I really don't want any mods on my car that doesn't have a CARB EO#. I was mainly concerned if internals would put me out of compliance with the sniffer?
