Just asking
Well I've been renting cars from Enterprise for two weeks now as I try figure out what to do with my Civic and the ole trusty D16Y8. The only major problem I've ever experienced with this motor is the partially blown head gasket.
I currently have a budget of $3K and have been exploring different engine options (B16A2, B18C1 and B18B).
I'm leaning more towards the B18B if it runs on 89 octane because it is a step up in power and has good potential, and the fact that I drive 130 miles round trip to work 5 times as week so gas prices really affect me.
Need suggestions

I have a budget of $3K and have been exploring different engine options. I'm considering getting a B18B from HMO but was unsure on what octane gasoline is recommended for this motor?
I drive 130 miles round trip to work 5 times as week so gas prices are a major factor for me hence the reason I'm considering the B18B and the possibility of just freshening up the D16Y8.

RE: Just asking
I'd say boost the D...Gas prices are high, and so are the prices of replacing failing parts on B-series motors, or even merely upgrading. If you boost the D you'd spend a lot less than 3k, you'd have a fast car, and D's are a dime a dozen .

Well if ur gonna eventually track it one day I'd say the b18c but if u just want a little more power u can have a pretty built b18b with 3k

RE: Just asking
B18b runs on regular fuel and is absolutely wonderful for highway miles. It's also a really nice up in performance over the little old D. Of course it has a bunch of potential as well.
B18c motor is a better motor sure. However, more expensive, more costly parts, premium fuel only, not as good on the highway as a B18b. This motor by far has more potential for 300-400+hp performance and durability at those levels of performances.

RE: Just asking
you can run them all on 89 depending on where you are located, all my friends in the midwest use 89 but say they can feel a difference.
