Why are sedan tail lights always different (and in my opinion, always less aesthetically pleasing) than coupe tail lights from the same model?

I've wondered about it for years...and have come up with several theories, but if I could get a definite answer, that would be awesome. Or perhaps you all are puzzled like me and would like to share crazy theories as well, whatever works, I want to hear it!

My Theories!

1) Sedan tail lights are made to be less aggressive looking in order to provide further incentive for people looking for a sportier car to purchase the coupe of the same model.

2) Sedan tail lights are usually bigger...so they're easier to see. People buying sedans will most likely be buying it for families...so it's safer?

I think the 99-00 Sedan lights are very shiny (crystal-like) maybe trying to look more luxurious so the public will buy the affordable sedan for there family.

Yea, I'm looking at some pictures now and it does look like there's more of a "clearer" finish on them. Whereas the 99-00 coupe tail lights have more of a foggy white and deep red. I can definitely see the crystal effect you're talking about.

The amber is epic fail though. If I had a sedan I would either have a body shop fill in the top inch and a half of tail light (then it would look very similar to the coupe lights) or buy those lights from ebay, which are just like the red/white tail lights, but for sedans...those are awesome.
