Big Grin  Installing a Kill Switch.......

Several people have been talking about security and alarms lately. Well, this is one of the many additions that anyone could do to add more security to their car. Sorry for not having any pictures it's 100+ outside and i dont feel like sitting in my car taking it apart for pictures.

Fuel Cut Off Kill Switch

1) The very first thing you have to do is run to your local electronics shop and grab yourself a small switch that can easily be mounted and hidden somewhere close to where you'll be sitting. Make sure it is an on/off switch and make sure you have plenty of wiring in case you mess up.

2) Now the tricky part, go into the passenger side of your civic and open up the right kicker panel (there should be 1 screw and a clip holding the panel in). Now that the panel is off, you should be able to see your ECU and the wires coming out of your ECU.

3) For OBD II ECU's the wire that you are going to splice will be the yellow with a green stripe. (I dont have a picture but make sure it is the Yellow with a green strip and not orange with a green stripe) Take a pair of wire strippers and cut the wire. Now test to make sure you have cut the correct wire by trying to turn on your engine. It should turn over and then choke.

4) Now take your switch and connect the wire to the two leads of the switch. Run the wiring up behind your dash hidden and out of sight somewhere. (I used electrical tape to completely mask mine off in order to hide it and make it harder to see) Now connect each of the ends of the wire to the ends of the yellow with green stripe wire that you had cut from the ECU harness.

5) Mount the switch in a well hidden location and then turn the switch to on and try to start your car again. If everything starts, that means you did it correctly. If it does not start. Well... G'LUCK! hahaha, j/k... just recheck your wiring to make sure everything is connected correctly.

Okay... hopefully that helped for all of you who have been trying to do this. The hardest part is trying to figure out how high up to cut the wire or how many switches you are going to install and where you want to install them. I would also recommend cutting the wire somewhere else along the line towards the actual fuel pump under the hood and install another switch up there. It wont garuntee that your car will not be stolen, but it will delay the theives enough for you to run out with a bat if you have a paging alarm. Woot

BTW I wouldn't tell anyone where the switch is hidden unless you truly trust them. Oh and if any of you live in Northern Cali and still have no clue of how to do it. Send me a PM and I'll see if I have some free time to help you out. (You can even give me a donation if you're nice enough to do so Big Grin)

RE: Installing a Kill Switch.......

I have one but I spliced off the wires at the fuel pump, not by the ECU....I think I am going to do another one though b/c it will be harder for them to find two switches Wink

Has anyone heard of those magnetic switches you can mount behind a panel. When you want to switch it on.....just run something metal by the panel. When you want to switch it off.....just run something metal by the panel again.

RE: Installing a Kill Switch.......

That just seems like you could accidentally switch it depending on where the switch is bj. It would be basically impossible to find though Wink

I was wondering why my car keeps on shutting off when I'm rollin' down the highway. Uhhhhhh must be the plate in my knee. Rofl
