Hello.... new to the site!!! (opinions needed too!)
hello all...
right now i currently own a 94 civic, but i REALLY want to get a 99-00 civic... however, when it comes to hondas, i get REALLY picky, and low and behold, i come across this...
theres a girl trying to sell hers locally for ~4700
99 EX, 5 speed, clear title, ~81k miles
heres the images she posted for her ad

i already looked at the car but here are the things that i found that bothered me about it:
1)CEL is on, but i THINK it might be an intake sensor problem or something (you ej8 guys know what im talking about?)
2)latch to open hood is broken, you have to put your hand through the grill to pop the hood
3)when the hood is shut, hood isnt aligned, it looks like it stil kinda open... can KINDA see it in first pic...
are all of those easy fixes..??? im not too familiar with the ej8 chassis. but if they are easy fixes, i might just pick this one up!!! thanks everyone!!!

Welcome to the site.
The problems you mentioned don't seem that hard to fix. To read the CEL yourself see this link.
The hood not closing is the only problem that bothers me somewhat. Has the car been in a front end accident of any kink? Maybe it's just not aligned properly. I would ask her straight up if it's been in an accident.

Jeremy's got the answers correct.
Long story short, just REALLY REALLY REALLY check the car over good. Obviously the car has been modified. Buying a modified Honda is a huge double edged sword. Sometimes it can be great....Other times it can be a nightmare.
....all in all....She looks pretty nice but don't let that deceive you one bit. She could be tired as an old lady. I'd ask to drive it a lot (just so see if anything happens) I'd be super direct about a lot of questions.....ask what exactly has the car been through modification wise and if the car has been through any accidents.
Well good luck with that bud. Welcome to the site. Hope you stick around.

After looking at the pictures......
I noticed something.....
Do you remember how the climate controls were laid out? Were all three knobs round ones to the right of the radio or was there two sliding adjusters with a hazard and a defrost button up top to the right and left of the radio.
By any chance can you take some interior pics?
This car looks to have a 96-98 rear bumper. I can't really tell though due to the shadows. It might be a 96-98 with a 99-00 front end on her.

i asked her and she said it hasnt been in an accident... but she could be lying her ass off too yeah? as for the interior, i dont really remember...
hmmm... i dont think shes dumb enough to call it a 99 if its a 96-98 style though... maybe i should see the cars registration and to run the vin or something...

Just pay attention to the climate control area, the patterns on the seats, the rear bumper. This way you'll be able to tell what years it is. Get the vin# and run a carfax on it if you suspect anything. Take her for LONG LONG test drives if you can. You really really really want to see if something will go wrong.
To see what codes it's showing, do what Jeremy said. Bring a paper clip with ya and plug it into the service port. Turn the key to the accessory power and count the blinking check engine light flashes. Short ones are 1 and the long ones are ten. Add them and you know your trouble code.

I thought the same as what bjscivic said about it being a 98. It may have been in an wreck;the front bumper looks to be repainted cuz where the fog lights go its suppose to be black and its painted (althought the side skirts are painted so that might the reason)and the rear bumper looked to be 98 as well. I love the blades though. Ask her to go with u or ask her to get some CEL print outs from auto zone its free to do
