head questions

Ok so my gf has a teggy and she wants to do an ls/vtec swap...my friend totaled his si recently and he said he would donate his head for the "cause"...so my question is would it be worth it to put a b16 head on a b18 block...by the way the b16 is fully rebuilt....

RE: head questions

I would vote yes
golden eagle has the vtec conversion kit
I would also upgrade to a gsr water pump and oil pump
for safety of the motor in the long run

RE: head questions

Your question..... Putting a vtec head on your ls block??? Is it worth it. YES YES YES!!!
Let me put it this way.....130ish whp from your ls. 170ish+ from a strictly oem parts built lsvtec = 40 or more whp just by slapping the head on. Do some stuff to it and compete with K series motors for about half the price.

There's MUCH MUCH MUCH more to building a LS/B20/Vtec. If you're looking to have it run reliable, you must pay extra particular attention to detail in everything you buy and hope the the machine shop that does all the machine work (and possibly assembly) knows EXACTLY what they're doing.

LSVs and B20Vs get a bad rap for long term reliability simply cause people slack on building them. So many people just slap some parts on and call it a day.....it lasts about a day as well. If you build it with the right parts and have it assembled to perfection, you'll have an engine that rewards you with OEM Honda reliability.

If you want more info, just ask. I am doing this and several other people on here have had them or just got done building one. We can help you for sure.

RE: head questions

B20 head is non vtec
so it would be pointless to swap a b20 head on there.
There is a lot that can go wrong with doing an ls-v conversion
for example it is all to common for people to put the headgasket on wrong
don't ask me how but they do

and what brad meant was you can just get a new head gasket and bolt the head on
or have everything machined properly by a reliable shop/builder
plus upgrade components like I said earlier
oil pump, water pump
yada yada
Because your going to be able to rev high and have your motor run harder
and if you are still running the LS pumps they won't be able to keep up with your engine
and then it goes kaputz in about a day like brad said also
do some search threads on h-t

RE: head questions

Read EVERY single page of this. This is pretty much the bible when it comes to properly building an LSVtec or B20Vtec. Surely there are other things you can do to increase the performance and easily break the 200whp barrier. This is all stuff that goes above and beyond your typical LSV build though.

Check it out.....
