Hey guys. im not much into electronics but i know it is very important.
I was just wondering.
What is a Vtec Controller?
What is it for?
What does it do?
Does it help with anything?

A VTEC controller helps you tune your car by adjusting your VTEC engagement and disengagement point to give you a smooth powerband. I'd recommend having your car professionally tuned if/when you get it installed, it'll make a world of difference.

^^^^
Enough said right there.

Well all but the world of difference....Sure fully tuning your car will make a world of difference. This thing however is one of the WAY OLD SCHOOL legendary tid bits that introduced the Honda community to the world of tuning. I had this exact one at one point in time. Even with a basic tune with it, it really didn't do too much.

RE: Field Vtec Controller

What other kind of mods to you have that would benefit a VTEC controller? If you haven't cracked up the head I would think it would be a waste of your money.

Honda dumped a lot of money into researching the optimal VTEC engagement is. Keep it where it is. I would pass on the controller.

will it work on obd2?
or will i have to do a obd2 to obd1 conversion
and get a p28 ecu to get tuned.

basic bolt ons I/H/E
nothing special.
vtec kicks at like 5600 rpm
(how i know? because i hear it and i also installed a vtec kick light haha)
is that normal for obd2 ej8.

RE: Field Vtec Controller

If I remember correctly, it only works w/ obd1. I never paid attention because I was already converted to obd1.

With your modifications, the controller will help really minimally. As Jeremy said, the stock engagement point is pretty much ideal (even w/ your bolt-ons) You would see much more of a difference if you had more aggressive cams, valvetrain, higher or lower compression...however, it's still not the biggest gain.

If you're serious about getting a tuning tool, just save your money, convert to obd1 and have your computer chipped & tuned by a pro. This will net you WAY more power and your car will just generally feel like a different car as far as performance goes. The little vtec controller is pretty much useless.
