Ever Wonder?

While on my 65 mile commute to work today I was admiring my brand new windshield that I had installed and I couldn't help but notice that my windshield wiper arms are starting to get that dreaded paint fade that every car seems to be a victim of.
I was just wondering if anybody has an explaination on why this happens? In my case my car goes from my garage at home to a covered carport at work so I know Sun doesn't affect my wiper arms. Gotme
Well needless to say I'm gonna take them off this weekend and paint them up.

RE: Ever Wonder?

I have the same problem on my wiper arms (only it actually chipped off)...I'd assume that your 65 mile commute has something to do with your fading paint problem. It's really just flat black paint without any sort of clear coat or protectant, so it's very subjective to the elements and wind and...stuff.

You have a very valid point there that I considered as well I guess when I paint them I may consider putting on a coat of clear. Should I use the same clear that people use to put on wheels? because I have about 4 cans of that stuff lying around the garage. Gotme

Hell, why not? I don't see how it could hurt. Anything is better than purchasing some "X3 Racing Wiper Bladez!" from your local Schucks/AutoZone, etc.

I'd been wanting to hit my blades with a paint can too.

RE: Ever Wonder?

Same here lol, it's a super easy job to.

I used a flat black can on the sides window seals where this happens a lot as well. I just took some sand paper and smoothed out the extra chips first. Looks better then when it was new.

RE: Ever Wonder?

I may too may consider having mine powder coated for that extra measure of protection from the elements. My window seals look brand new with no fade what so ever. The one thing that I am having problems with is my heat shield I recently painted it with Dupli-Color 500*in Aluminum and it bubbled just enough to annoy me, I guess I have to find some 1200* paint now and start the process all over again. Banghead Or get it powdercoated the same time I do the wiper blade arms.
