eyepop  Endless Money Pit

Well as some of you may know I posted a pic of some slipstreams with a red lip that I was planning to get this week, so I was all excited since I had a little extra money and I wanted to change things up a bit on the EJ8 http://www.ej8squad.com/are-these-being-...4109.html.
Now to the RANT! a buddy of mine comes over to my job this past Friday and says I've got a little something for that little canyon carver of yours so I automatically figured he got a new car, but he didn't get just any off the shelf car but a Evo IX.
So after thoroughly looking over his ride we decide to go for a little canyon run to see how my Civic fares against an Evo , and mind you I already have a minor leak in my head gasket that I've been putting off repairing since I still can drive the car because it doesn't overheat, as long as I keep the radiator fluids topped off. Now back to the RANT we decide to go at it a little through the twisties and I look down at the speedometer to only notice that my temp gauge is skyrocketing quickly and I knew immediately what it was A BLOWN HEADGASKET!!! so I and I pulled over with the quickness to let things cool down.
But that is only the beginning of my problems I live 65 miles away and I had to get my car home because I'm in a wedding the next day.
Needless to say I got home after leaving work at 5:00pm at 11:45pm after driving and pulling over numerous times to let the car cool before doing it again as to not damage the block.
Now I'm faced with the dilemma of getting a 99 B16A2 that I've been eyeballing for a week now because it will be easier to freshen up since it is already out of the car or tear down the D16Y8 and replace the bad headgasket which I already have sitting in my garage and still get the wheels Gotme

RE: Endless Money Pit

My...what a mess! I was expecting some sort of 1337 story of how you destroyed an Evo IX on the canyons despite your head gasket leak.

Well, this is how I would do things...Make sure it runs fine before you start doing anything to it (if money seems to be a problem), I'd just get it to the point where there are no problems and it's 100% reliable, and then just hold off on rims. Fix the head gasket and get some rims later!

And besides...a B16? =p

RE: Endless Money Pit

ROFL I'm all about getting it running right before doing anything else

The B16A2 is looking like a good deal since it is a low mileage motor and the guy is willing to sell the entire long block for $700 and provide VIN numbers off the block so that I can verify if it is legit with the CHP which most sellers aren't able to do! Plus my motor is 2K away from 200K miles and is due for a overhaul nervous

Mmmmm...didn't know those details, definitely sounds like a pretty good deal in that case then. I'm just sort of biased against B16's though, so sorry if I come off in that way. I'd wonder how far you intend to go with that motor though? Just drop it in and leave it stock or do you intend to work on it?

In your position, I would take the motor and just turn it around and make a profit. Pick up another D16y8 and just run your current one until it explodes. Drop in the new motor and use the $500 or whatever amount of money you saved to buy something nice?

RE: Endless Money Pit

I saw pick up the motor. And hold off on the rims. I've changed my mind on rims soo many times. I would of owned at least 20 pairs if I wadda had the money everytime I wanted rims but I will say those slips are pretty sick. I say get the motor

RE: Endless Money Pit

Well I tried to replace the head gasket today with no luck, it's just too involved for my liking, I even went out and got a OEM water pump, belt tentioner, cam seal, crank seal, thermostat and timing belt. I honestly think the heat got the best of me Owned
I will more than likely pick up the B16A2 and freshen it up while it is on a engine stand and install it within the next two weeks after a few goodies are installed Drinkbeer

if your planing on replacing the timing belt with the engine in the car, plan on wasting almost an entire day and prepared to get a few more gouges on your knuckles. thats because of the placement of the driverside engine mount, and the timing belt.. which McBlows!
