DIY - AVCR or VAFC , SAFC Mounting to Rear View Mirror

DIY - AVCR or VAFC , SAFC Mounting to Rear View Mirror

Some people like to keep there Vafc or Avcr hidden since I use my avcr for my boost gauge as well as other functions I want it out in the open but not super visible to everyone and ususally nobody even notices it until they sit inside - So here it is I did this back in January 06 and its still holding up without any problems

Parts Used :

I used 6 32 x 1/2  I used flat head as It seemed to give plenty of clearance with no problems what so ever when mounting the cover back to the mirror

some # 6 lock washers its up to you

30ft 22gauge wire any color (just make sure you connect the correct wires to each other) - Radioshack

A soldering gun and some solder

Electrical Tape

Some Patience

Some Scotch or 3M Heavy Duty Double Sided Tape  - Home Depot - Lowes doesnt have it

Drill and a bit to drill the holes for your 6/32 x 1/2" holes

So anyway here it is

I lined up the mount where I wanted it than marked the spots to be drilled with a sharpie - - no pics but pretty self explainable  =)

Popped off the plastic piece from the mirror whith a flathead screwdriver - self explainable again  =)

Drilled out the 2 holes and than procided to put the Avcr mount to the piece with the 6/32 x 1/2" flathead type screws with bolts and lockwashers and I got this - I also cuth the mount feet down to about the aidth of the mirror piece - which can really restrict the visors if you dont  Thumbup

Than on the other side i drilled 1 hole in the middle which I didnt get a shot of but it
was directly in the middle right about where the arrow is pointing to

So after that was done it a test fit time to see how it would mount back into position

Here you can see kinds blurry that I used velcro here ( I actually found the velcro did not hold like i wanted it to so went with some scotch heavy duty double sided tape)

Now to get the avcr all the way up top I had to lengthen the wires in the harness so if you dont like cutting and soldering than your done  =)  or find someone who you trust to do it

One last wire to tape up

And heres what I ended up with when done
( I used 10 - 3ft pieces of 22gauge wire to extend)

Now plug the harness back together and make sure it works  =)

After alittle electrical tape heres what ya get

Now after you remove the pillar piece (be careful it can be a pain in the a**)
and plastic piece on the far right hand side of the dash (sorry no pics)
you can run the wire up the side than into the pillar - leave enough so you can pull the wire behind and wire tie it to the mirror

Now after you have put all the pieces back together  (A the pillar first - B than the side piece you should have a avcr or a vafc hanging from the cieling of your car  =)

Now tighten the mount on the rear view mirror - than position the Avcr or Vafc where you want it - remember the double stick tape doesnt have much give so get it where you want it the first time if possible

I than wire tied and tucked the extra wire into the little gap between the windshield and the headliner

Now sit back and realize just how good it looks  =)

1 sidenote - I keep my sunvisors pushed all the way against my windshield  so Due to the width of the Avcr or Vafc I can only pull the visors back about 3/4's of the way than I have to fold the Avcr down on the hinge to allow them to go fully back into position against the headliner - so if you keep yours in the stock position just keep in mind everytime you want them down there may be some moving on the Unit
