well i just bought halo 3 and i got a ethernet cable so i decided to hook it up ....well i do the xbox live test connection and it says my IP address failed. i even enter it manually and still no go. do you guys have the solution for this??

Did it detect your Network? For example, I'm using a Linksys router so my network name is Linksys. If it detects your network, but won't connect, you most likely need to enter in your WEP key, which is basically the lock on your network so that your neighbors don't leech off of your connection. It's an 8-16 digit password depending on what kind of encryption you are using, I believe. But whatever your computer uses will be the same on your 360...does that make any sense?

Then again....that might only pertain to a wireless connection...so scratch that.

Check your network settings on your 360, and make sure that your IP settings and your DNS settings are both set to "Automatic," the only thing I can think of wrong with your setup is that one or both of those are on Manual and they aren't working because you didn't input anything.

try this, turn off your xbox, unplug your router, then unplug your modem ( from the power source ). give it about a minute then plug in your modem, wait for it to power up completely, then plug in your modem then your xbox. Its what I have to do anythime my ip address fails. good luck

oh but i dont have a router i just connected the ethernet cable to the modem and then 2 the xbox

and i manually enterd my IP address on the settings and it still wont get it

Unplug your cable modem for a minute, plug it back in and wait until all the lights are on. Now power-up your 360 and try "Automatic" settings again.

i did that and it still failed
but the funny thing is that i was messing around with it and it worked!
but then logged off and it failed the IP adress again
dammn i cant remember what i did lol

I bought the expensive wireless thing for my 360 because I didn't know at the time i could simply run a ethernet wire from my router LOL

but I think some of my friends played with the mac address or something to get theirs to work
